Ican Students Registration: Requirements and Processes

Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is an organisation established in 1965. The body is responsible for accounting regulations in Nigeria. It helps to determine the skills and knowledge required for anyone to become an accountant. It helps to boost the confidence of members in the field.

Many Accounting graduates aspiring to become ICAN students may not know the  requirements and processes to be registered as an ICAN Student. 

 

Many equally think it is just about registering for the examination that makes you an ICAN student. It goes beyond that, below will give you guidelines on the processes and requirements for registration as an ICAN student.


 ICAN students registration has so many requirements that should be known by any intending student. The students registration requirements as follows:

ICAN Students Registration

There are two different ways to register and become an ICAN student:

  1. By becoming an Accounting technicians Scheme West Africa Student (ATSWA)or,

  2. By becoming a Professional Student  

Requirements For Registration as an ATSWA Student of ICAN

ATSWA students are Accounting students that only doesn't have a degree or it's equivalent so as to register under the scheme. 

 

The Institute made it easy that with any qualification as as far as the student has passed through the four walls of the secondary school, or passed through any institution of higher learning and graduated with a Diploma or it's equivalent.

 

To be registered as an ATSWA student, you required to at least possess the following qualifications:

a.) Ordinary National Diploma (OND)

b.) National Certificate of Education (NCE)

c.) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE)

d.) Any other requirements that may be announced by ICAN.

 

Processes For Registration As An ATSWA Student

STEP 1.

To register as a student in this category as stated above, with your SSCE result, you must have a minimum of 5 credits not more than one sitting. To register as an ATSWA student with your OND/ NCE as the case may be. These qualifications must be obtained from a school that is accredited or approved by ICAN. 

 

STEP 2.

Go to any Commercial bank of your choice and pay a registration fee of Six thousand Naira (#6,000) using Pay Direct Portal. After Payment, the bank will give you a Pay Direct receipt.

 

STEP 3.

Proceed with the transaction reference and receipt number to the official website click here given in the bank to fill the registration form provided.

 

STEP 4.

Upload a scanned coloured copy of your recent passport photograph on the column provided for it on the registration.

 

STEP 5.

After filling the necessary information required in the registration form, click on submit and then print it out and append your signature on the column or space provided.

 

STEP 6.

Find a qualified ICAN member to stand in as your sponsor/referee. Get His / Her name, membership number, phone number, contact address to fill in the registration form.

 

STEP 7.

Take the form to your referee whose details is the form for him to endorse it by signing his signature in the space provided.

 

STEP 8.

Attach the following to the registration form printed:

*Photocopy of your Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination(SSCE), Ordinary National Diploma(OND), National Certificate of Education(NCE) statement results.

*Attach two recent passport photographs.

*Original copy of the PIN Voucher obtained from the bank.

*Three self-addressed envelop with Fifty Naira (#50.00) stamp affixed on each of them.

*A photocopy of your birth certificate.

*The original copy of bank teller used in paying in the bank.

*Compile the above documents with the completed registration form and send them to Students Education and Training Department at ICAN Secretariate,82 Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos. 


Steps To Register As A Professional ICAN Students

To be registered as a Professional student, ICAN accepts the following qualifications as entry requirements:

a.) A dregree from any University or Higher National Diploma from any Polytechnic accredited by the ICAN Council.

b.) Any other qualification for the time being approved by the ICAN Council.

c.) A certificate showing completion of the Accounting Technicians Scheme, West Africa (ATSWA).

 

Requirements For Registration as an ICAN Professional Student

STEP 1

To be registered as a professional student, You are expected to possess a minimum of University degree( BSc) or its equivalent Higher National Diploma (HND) from an approved institution of higher learning. There is also a list of approved qualifications that determines your eligibility to apply as a professional student.

 

STEP 2.

Go to any Commercial bank of your choice and pay a professional examination registration fee of Seven thousand Naira (#7,000) using Pay Direct Portal. After Payment, the bank will give you a Pay Direct receipt.

 

STEP 3.

Proceed with the transaction reference and receipt number to the official website click here given in the bank to fill the registration form provided to start your registration Process.


 

STEP 4.

Upload a scanned coloured copy of your recent passport photograph on the column provided for it on the registration.

 

STEP 5.

After filling the necessary information required in the registration form, click on submit and then print it out and append your signature on the column or space provided.

 

STEP 6.

Find a qualified ICAN member to stand in as your sponsor/referee. Get His / Her name, membership number, phone number, contact address to fill in the registration form.

 

STEP 7.

For students with Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT), they should attach a photocopy of their result. Pay the sum of Twenty three thousand five hundred Naira (#23,500) as induction/Conference fees and attach a photocopy of the receipt.

 

STEP 8.

Attach the following to the registration form printed:

*Photocopy of your BSc or HND result.

* Photocopy of your NYSC discharge certificate( for those that has finished their youth service), Call-up letter (for those that are yet to finish youth service), transcript (for those that are not eligible for youth service programe). The transcript should be addressed to the registrar/ Chief Executive of the Institute.

*Attach two recent passport photographs.

*Original copy of the PIN Voucher obtained from the bank.

*Three self-addressed envelop with Fifty Naira (#50.00) stamp affixed on each of them.

*A photocopy of your birth certificate.

*The original copy of bank teller used in paying in the bank.

*Compile the above documents with the completed registration form as hard copies and send them to Students Education and Training Department at ICAN Secretariate,82 Murtala Mohammed Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos. 

 

After  completing the above procedures, your registration is complete!

 

You can check your Exam/Financial Status on the Institutes official page click with your Student registration number that has been given to you.
